MaxLife Recorder
To assist in providing a complete usage monitoring service, QinetiQ AeroStructures has available its own MaxLife recorder, a passive on board usage data recorder that can be used in helicopters and fixed wing aircraft. MaxLife requires no intervention by aircrew and is simple to install, with only pitot static system and aircraft power as the minimum requirement to be applied.
MaxLife has been used on United States Navy and Coast Guard helicopters, Australian Defence Force Black Hawk helicopters, a R22 helicopter and the Mustang aircraft operating from the Royal Australian Air Force's museum. The unit provides date/time stamped data for 15 flight parameters on a flash card. Parameters include vertical acceleration, indicated airspeed, pressure altitude, rate of climb, outside air temperature, pitch and roll angle, pitch, roll and yaw rates and weight on wheels. For helicopters, main rotor RPM and up to two engine torque parameters can be recorded.
The recording of usage history enables comparison of actual usage against design assumptions. The result is the safe and economic management of client aircraft structural integrity.
